In a vegetarian region of India known as Rajasthan, cows are sacred and honored for their milk, labor, and spirit. Revered, they're allowed to live well and die of old age. After they pass, their hides are treated naturally -- without harmful chemicals -- and made into beautiful journals, like this one. The paper inside this journal is also tree-free, made from discarded cotton scraps collected from the textile industry.
